Sorry friends, I’ve been down but not out.
It’s been a rough start to my 2025 cycling season. My winter was spent dedicated to my training in anticipation of coming out strong in 2025, but I’ve been met with a lot of unforeseen circumstances. And for that, I’ve been struggling with plummeting motivation and not a lot to write about. I have started many drafts, but can’t seem to keep the story going right now.
In short, my first race of the year was The Midsouth in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The race was cancelled the evening prior due to intense winds and hyper-dry conditions leading to widespread wildfires. A few weeks later, I had planned on competing in a local gravel race called Pavement Ends. A snowstorm struck the morning of the race (which notoriously always has bad weather). I attempted to drive the one hour commute but turned back home as the road conditions quickly became unsafe. The race continued but the route was shortened due to poor road conditions. Then just a few weeks before Unbound, I was in a cycling accident involving multiple cyclists on a group ride. I was ambulanced to my local hospital as a trauma patient. I ended up hospitalized for 4 days and underwent multiple surgeries for my injuries (working on that post). I have been healing well from those injuries but I will be limited in my activity for about two months. Pending everything heals well, I plan to be back on the bike in July for a better second half of the season.
So stay tuned! I will be posting more soon!
